With a background as a science and biology secondary school teacher at Matamata College, Mike Garrud has a well-developed understanding of rural people and the importance of education. His involvement in the Waikato Farmers Trust stems from his passion to enable young people to further their education in the agricultural industry.

A Morrinsville dairy farmer, Mike has been involved in his rural community through various positions including Morrinsville Chair for Waikato Federated Farmers, and as a trustee of David Street School and a board member of Morrinsville Intermediate School. He has also completed the Fonterra Governance Development Programme and continues to further his knowledge by learning alongside others in governance roles.

As a Trustee of Waikato Farmers Trust, Mike aims to encourage and support young people to further their agricultural learning to ensure the industry’s bright future for many years to come.
